ABOUT Goda Sheera (semolina banana halwa) RECIPE

Ever popular sweet made in my house and most commonly made during festive times and as Prasad during Pujas.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1 cup medium sized sooji/rava/semolina
  2. 1 cup clarified butter/ghee
  3. 1 cup sugar
  4. 1 cup milk
  5. 1 tbsp warm milk
  6. 2-3 tbsp mix of dry fruits (cashews, almonds, chironji, raisins)
  7. 3 cardamoms
  8. 1 tsp cardamom powder(or as per taste)
  9. 1 ripe banana sliced thinly
  10. Few strands of Saffron

Instructions

  1. Dissolve saffron in warm milk.
  2. Fry the dry fruits in ghee till lightly colored.
  3. Melt ghee in thick bottomed saucepan/kadhai. Roast rava in ghee on medium heat stirring continuously till fragrant (about 15 minutes).
  4. Add milk as well as the saffron milk and mix well. Add cardamom pods. Keep stirring. Add sugar and cook till it dissolves and mixture comes together. Keep stirring to prevent it from sticking to the pan.
  5. Add cardamom powder and nuts and raisins.
  6. Switch off gas and add the banana slices. Mash the bananas coarsely into the Sheera while the Sheera is still warm. Serve in individual bowls while warm.
