ABOUT STUFFED BAJJI MIRCHI GRAVY / MIRCHI SALAN RECIPE

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Bajji Mirchi – 3 nos.
  2. Onion – 1 nos (big).
  3. Tomato – 1 no(big)
  4. Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
  5. Coriander powder – ½ tsp.
  6. Curry leaves – a sprig.
  7. Oil – 1 tsp
  8. Oil – for deep frying chillies.
  9. SAUTE AND GRIND TO PASTE :
  10. Onion – 1 no(big)
  11. Ginger 1 ½” piece – 1
  12. Garlic – 5 pods
  13. Dry red chilli – 3
  14. Sesame seeds – ½ tsp
  15. Groundnut – ½ tsp
  16. Cinnamon / pattai 1” piece – 1 no
  17. Cloves / Krambu – 2 nos
  18. Fennel seeds / Sombu – ½ tsp
  19. Cumin / Zeera – ½ tsp
  20. Khus khus / Poppy seeds – ¼ tsp
  21. Coconut - 6 tsp.
  22. Oil – 2 tsp.
  23. FOR BATTER : (OPTIONAL ,YOU CAN EVEN SKIP THIS STEP)
  24. All purpose flour – 1 ½ cup
  25. Chilli powder – 1 tsp
  26. Chilli chicken powder – 1 tsp
  27. Cornflour mix – 3 tsp
  28. Salt – as required.
  29. FOR STUFFING :
  30. Potato – 2 nos
  31. Chilli powder – 1 tsp
  32. Onion – 5 tsp
  33. Garammasala – ½ tsp
  34. Cumin powder – ½ tsp
  35. Salt – ½ tsp.

Instructions

  1. Saute the grinding ingredients after frying in a tsp of oil and grind to fine paste.
  2. Clean and slit open the mirchi chillies and remove the seeds.
  3. Boil and mash the potatoes , then mix the potato with our stuffing ingredients ( chillipowder , chopped onions , garam masala , cumin powder and salt).
  4. Now stuff the slitted chill with the mixed potato and close the chillies (as in picture).
  5. In a bowl mix all purpose flour , chilli powder , chillichicken powder , cornflour mix and salt and add ¼ cup water and mix to form idli batter consistency ( you can even skip this step , we like the chewy texture in chillies so I did it ..
  6. Dip each of the stuffed chilli in above batter and deep fry in oil till golden brown , drain the oil and keep aside.
  7. in a pan add 1 tsp of oil followed by onions , curry leaves and fry till translucent.
  8. When onions are done add tomatoes and fry till mushy , followed by turmeric powder , coriander powder and sauté once.
  9. Now add the ground masala and boil for 5 mins till the gravy reaches required consistency.
  10. When your gravy is ready finally add the fried chillies and garnish with coriander leaves and give a quick mix and serve
  11. The gravy goes best with dosa and chapathis too.
