ABOUT Homemade Marinara Sauce RECIPE

Marinara sauce is a simple tomato puree with a few basic ingredients such as onions, garlic and herbs such as oregano. It is an absolute must have for pasta. This Marinara Sauce is very easy to make. It can be made chunky or smooth. Once prepared it stays good in the refrigerator for 2 to 3 days and longer in the freezer..Good quality ripe and red tomatoes are recommended for making the Marinara sauce

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 500 gram ripe red tomatoes
  2. 6 to 8 cloves garlic peeled and roughly chopped
  3. 1 small onion finely chopped
  4. 1/4 cup diced green capsicum
  5. 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  6. 1 teaspoon dried oregano powder
  7. a pinch of Red Chilli Flakes
  8. A pinch of black pepper powder
  9. 1 teaspoon of sugar
  10. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium heavy bottom saucepan blanch the tomatoes and make a puree.
  2. In another pan warm the extra virgin olive oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic and stir fry for a few minutes till fragrant aroma is released.
  3. Add the chopped capsicum and saute.
  4. Then add the oregano.
  5. Pour in the puree tomatoes, chill flakes, black pepper, sugar and salt. Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat stirring occasionally.
  6. Then lower the heat and simmer for about for about 20 minutes or until droplets of oil start floating over the sauce.
  7. Toss pasta with this homemade Marinara sauce. This sauce keeps well, covered and refrigerated for up to 3-4 days.
