ABOUT Traditional Spiced Potato Curry with masala poori and Boondi Raita RECIPE

A very traditional and common dish which is served all over North India as it is relatively inexpensive and even high on taste. You can enjoy this combination at any time of the day. This dish is not only served in India but in the other countries too. Making the pooris with spiced urad dal paste not only enhances it's health quotient but also taste too.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Spiced Potato Curry-
  2. Potatoes, 4, boiled
  3. Tomatoes, 3
  4. Ginger, 1inch piece
  5. Green chilli, 1
  6. Cardamom, 2
  7. Lavang, 1
  8. Cumin seeds, 1tsp
  9. Asafoetida, pinch
  10. Bay leaf, 2
  11. Red chilli powder, 1tsp
  12. Coriander powder, 3/4tsp
  13. Turmeric powder, 3/4tsp
  14. Garam masala, 1tsp
  15. Dry mango powder, 1/2tsp
  16. Coriander leaves, handful, chopped
  17. Ghee, few drops
  18. Wheat flour, 2tsp
  19. Salt, to taste
  20. Water, 2+1/2 cup
  21. Oil, as required
  22. Masala Poori-
  23. Urad Dal powder, 1/2 cup
  24. Turmeric powder, 1/4tsp
  25. Red chilli powder, 1tsp
  26. Coriander powder, 3/4tsp
  27. Garam masala, 1tsp
  28. Roasted cumin seeds, 1/2tsp
  29. Coriander seeds, 4-5, crushed
  30. Water, little
  31. Wheat flour, 1 cup
  32. Salt, to taste
  33. Oil, 1tsp
  34. Oil, for frying
  35. Boondi Raita-
  36. Curd, 1 bowl
  37. Salt, to taste
  38. Red chilli powder, 1/2tsp
  39. Coriander powder, 1tsp
  40. Milk, 1/4 cup
  41. Boondi, 1/2-3/4 cup or to taste

Instructions

  1. Spiced Potato Curry- Initially take boiled potatoes, peel and break them.
  2. Take a grinder and add potatoes, ginger, green chilli, cardamom, lavang and grind them to paste.
  3. Now take a pressure cooker and add oil then add cumin seeds and when crackles add asafoetida, bay leaf and simmer the flame.
  4. Add red chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder and saute for a minute.
  5. Now add tomato puree and cook for 2 minutes.
  6. Now add potatoes and water and mix.
  7. Add in salt, garam masala, dry mango powder, coriander leaves and mix.
  8. Take a fry pan and add ghee and slightly roast the wheat flour and then add it to the cooker.
  9. Now pressure cook for 1 whistle and simmer for 5 minutes.
  10. Switch off the flame and your tasty spiced potato curry is ready.
  11. Masala Poori- Take urad dal powder in a bowl and add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, garam masala, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and little water and mix and make a thick paste.
  12. Keep aside for 6-7 minutes.
  13. Take wheat flour and add salt, oil and urad dal paste and prepare a smooth dough with help of warm water.
  14. Keep aside covered for 10 minutes.
  15. Apply little oil in hands and knead the dough again.
  16. Take out balls and roll flat and prepare the pooris.
  17. Boondi Raita- Take a bowl and add curd, salt, red chilli powder, coriander powder and mix.
  18. Now add milk, Boondi and mix well. Your raita is also ready.
