ABOUT Dalma RECIPE

Dalma is the traditional dish of Odisha which contains dal and different kinds of nutritious vegetables. It is so healthy and tasty also.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Roasted moong dal-3/4cup
  2. Cut pieces of vegetables (potato, Brinjal, pumpkin,papaya, Colo cassia, plantains, beans)-3cups
  3. Tomato-1big sized
  4. Grated coconut-1/2cup
  5. Dry red chilli-2
  6. Roasted cumin and red chilli powder -1tbsp
  7. Turmeric powder -1/2tbsp
  8. Ghee/oil-2tbsp
  9. Punch phoran -1/2tbsp
  10. Salt -as per taste
  11. Sugar-1/2tbsp
  12. Hing-pinch of
  13. Water-1.5glass
  14. Chopped coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. Cut the vegetables and wash the roasted day properly.
  2. Put the pressure cooker on the stove top and add water, turmeric powder salt. Then add the dal along with all the vegetables in high flame for one whistle.
  3. Switch off the flame and remain it for sometime. Don't open the lid till all the gas come out in normal way.
  4. In another pan roast some cumin and dry chilli for sometime. Place it into a mortar and make a fine powder..
  5. Add ghee in a pan. Then add pinch of hing into it along with dry red chilli and punch phoran.
  6. When it crackled add the dal and vegetables to it.
  7. Then add the grated coconut,chopped coriander leaves, masala powder and sugar to it.
  8. Switch off the flame and serve hot with rice by garnishing it with coriander leaves and grated coconut.
