Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. 1/2 katori tuar dal
  2. 1/2 katori rice
  3. 1/2 katori masoor dal
  4. 2 chopped onion
  5. 2 chopped tomato
  6. Water to consistency
  7. 1 cup shredded coconut
  8. 4 to 5 black peppercorns
  9. 10 dried red chillies
  10. 1 inch cinnamon stick
  11. 1 tblspn cumin seeds
  12. 3 tblspn tamarind pulp
  13. Salt acc to taste
  14. 1 tspn haldi powder
  15. 2 tblspn mustard seeds
  16. 3 tblspn ghee
  17. Few chopped curry leaves
  18. 1/2 tspn hing

Instructions

  1. Take a pressure cooker and put tuar dal, masoor dal, chopped onion, chopped tomato, salt acc to taste and haldi powder.
  2. Add 1 glass of water.
  3. Now pressure cook it for 3 whistles.
  4. In the meanwhile we should make masala paste.
  5. So take a pan and start roasting pepper corns, cinnamon stick, 8 dry red chillies, cumin seeds and over all in the end Shredded Coconut.
  6. Stirr it continously for 1 to 2 mins.
  7. Now off the flame.
  8. When it cools down then put in the mixing jar to make a fine paste by adding little bit water and tamarind pulp.
  9. The paste should be smooth and rich in red color or dark orange color.
  10. Now take a big kadai by adding 1 tblspn ghee in it.
  11. Now add masala paste and 1 or 2 cups of water.
  12. Mix it and see the consistency of water.
  13. Now add cooked rice dal in it.
  14. Mix it well so that it is combined to each other properly.
  15. If it is thick then add more water.
  16. Now cover it with the lid for few mins.
  17. Now again stirr and mix it.
  18. Cover it with the lid and off the flame.
  19. For tempering take a small pan by heating ghee in it.
  20. Now add mustard seeds, curry leaves, red chilli and hing.
  21. When it starts spluttering pour it on the Coconut Khichdi.
  22. Serve it with chips, papad or yogurt.
