Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 3/4 cup rice
  2. 1/3 cup Chana Dal
  3. 2 tbsp. tuvar dal
  4. 2 tbsp. masoor dal
  5. 2 tbsp. urad dal
  6. 1/2 tsp. fenugreek seeds
  7. 1/2 cup grated beetroot
  8. 1/2 cup Grated cucumber
  9. 1/2 cup grated green papaya
  10. Handful of coriander leaves, chopped
  11. 2 green chilies, chopped
  12. 1 tsp. grated ginger
  13. 2-3 tbsp. fresh grated coconut
  14. Salt to taste
  15. 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
  16. 1/2 tsp. red chili powder
  17. 1 tsps. cumin powder
  18. 1 Tsp. Coriander Powder
  19. Juice of 1/2 lime
  20. Tempering -
  21. 2 tbsp. oil
  22. 1 tsp. Mustard seeds
  23. 1/2 tsp. cumin seeds
  24. 1 tsp. sesame seeds
  25. 1 sprig curry leaves
  26. 1/4 tsp. asafoetida
  27. 1 dry red chili
  28. 1 tbsp. fresh grated coconut to garnish
  29. 1 tbsp. chopped coriander leaves to garnish

Instructions

  1. Soak rice, fenugreek seeds & the lentils overnight. Grind to a slightly coarse paste.
  2. Add rest of the ingredients and mix well.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and temper with the dry red chilies, mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Saute for a few seconds. Add the curry leaves, asafoetida & sesame seeds and saute.
  4. Pour 2-3 ladleful of the batter and cook, covered on a low flame for 3-4 minutes or till it is nicely browned.
  5. Flip it over and cook the other side too till done.
  6. Cut into desired shapes and serve with mint chutney for a tea-time monsoon snack,
