ABOUT Daler Borar Jhal/ Lentil Fritters Curry RECIPE
It is a bengali traditional dish and comfort dish as well. Lentil fritters soaked in tomato based gravy with fried potatoes and spices is very flavourful and yummy . My mother cooks this curry really well.

Ingredients Serving: 4
Masoor dal 3/4 cup
Potato 1 cut in cubes
Onion 1 big chopped roughly
tomato 1 big sliced
Ginger 1 inch , grated
Green chilli 2
Bay leaf 2
Powdered spices :
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Cumin powder 1 tsp
coriander powder 1 tsp
Garam masala powder 1/4 tsp
Hing 1/3 tsp
Salt as per your taste
Ghee 1 tsp
Mustard oil 1 cup + 3 tbsp
Instructions
Wash and soak 1 cup of masoor dal in enough water for 2 hours and discard water
Add soaked dal to the grinder with 1_2 green chilli , turmeric powder , 1 tsp water , hing 1/2 tsp and salt as per your taste
Make a smooth paste
In a small kadai heat 3/4 cup of oil , add small balls of masoor dal paste . Fry in low heat only until they are slight red in both sides . Continue until the entire paste is used up
Get rid of the extra oil by putting them in the kitchen tissues
Cut potatoes in cubes
Chop onions , cut tomatoes in thin slices . Grate ginger
Add 1/4 tsp yellow mustard seeds and 1/4 tsp kalonji seeds , let them crackle in high heat
Add 2 bay leaves
Add chopped onions , sauté in low heat until light pink
Add grated ginger , sauté for 1 minute in low heat
Add cubed potatoes
Add all the spices powder one by one except for garam masala powder. Also add salt. Saute potatoes and spices in low heat for 2_3 minutes
Add slices of tomatoes , cook in low heat for 2_3 minutes or until the tomatoes are soft , add little water if needed.
For gravy add 1 1/2 cup of water
Cover and cook for 4_5 minutes in low heat with the lid on
Add daler bora / lentil fritters
Let the lentil fritters boil in gravy for 2_3 minutes in medium heat . Turn them and cook for another 2 minutes. Add ghee and garam masala powder .Switch off gas . Add chopped coriander leaves.
Rest the dish for 10 minutes , serve hot with rice for a comfort and tasty meal.
