ABOUT Spicy Cucumber Rice Dumplings ( kozhukattai) RECIPE

This is a karnataka breakfast recipe where grated cucumber is added to rice rava and steamed. Its a healthy as well as tasty recipe and one of my favourite from mom's kitchen. This is ideal for breakfast or dinner especially during summer season.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Rice rava- 1 1/2 cups
  2. Water -2 1/2 cups
  3. Grated cucumber -2 cups
  4. Grated coconut-1/2 cup
  5. Green chilli -3
  6. Mustard seeds -1 teaspoon
  7. Coconut Oil -2 table spoon
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Curry leaves-few

Instructions

  1. Grind coconut and green chilli into course paste without adding water in mixie
  2. In a kadai heat oil and add mustard seeds,channa dal and urad dal.fry till golden and then add curry leaves.
  3. Add in measured water, grounded coconut chilli mixture and required salt.Allow it to boil
  4. Once water starts boiling reduce the flame to low. slowly add the rice rava stirring continuously until all the water is evaporated and the mixture becomes thick
  5. When the mixture is warm , wet your hands.and then take a ball of the mixture and roll them into a cylindrical dumpling. Repeat the same procedure with the remaining mixture.
  6. Steam them for 10 to 15 minutes
