ABOUT Arisi paruppu sadham RECIPE

A typical Coimbatore recipe which is easy to prepare. This goes well with brinjal and potato mixed curry which is also a Covai recipe.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Rice -250 gm
  2. Thoor dhal-150 gm
  3. Mustard-1/2 tsp
  4. Cumin seeds- 1 tsp
  5. Few curry leaves
  6. Onion shallots- 1 tbsp
  7. Green chillies slit-3
  8. Tomatoes - 2
  9. turmeric powder - 1 tsp
  10. Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
  11. Sambar powder - 1 and 1/2 tsp
  12. Hing - 1 pinch
  13. Gingelly oil - 1 and 1/2 tbsp
  14. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Soak the rice and dhal together for 30 mins.
  2. In a pressure cooker add the gingelly oil followed by mustard and cumin.
  3. Now add onion shallots and curry leaves,saute till translucent. Next add tomatoes and saute till it gets mushy.
  4. Add hing and all the dry powders. Saute well. Now add the rice and dhal, mix it well.
  5. Add 3 to 4 cups of water. Pressure cook it for 3 whistles. Then wait for the release of the steam.
  6. Serve it with curd and vegetable curry.
