ABOUT Rawa dosa and palya RECIPE

A perfect weekend South Indian breakfast, who doesn't like a crispy dosa accompanied with coriander chutney and aloo palya.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 big potato, boiled and skinned
  2. 1 small sized onion, cut finely
  3. 1 small sized tomato, chopped
  4. 2 green chillies, cut finely
  5. 1 inch piece ginger, cut finely
  6. 2-3 cloves garlic crushed
  7. Few coriander leaves and curry leaves
  8. 1 tbsp oil
  9. 1 tsp each of mustard seeds, udad dal and chains dal for seasoning
  10. 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  11. Salt to taste
  12. To grind:
  13. 1 tsp of fresh coconut
  14. 1 tsp of saunf
  15. 1 tsp of rice powder
  16. For the rawa dosa batter:
  17. 1 cup rice powder
  18. 3/4 cup semolina
  19. 1/4 cup atta

Instructions

  1. Take a kadai and heat oil in it, add the seasoning then add onions, green chillies, curry leaves, garlic, ginger pieces and fry it.
  2. Add the tomato, little salt, fry it then add the potatoes, ground masala and turmeric powder. Add water as required and adjust the salt. ( This is called aloo palya, vella kurma in Tamil.)
  3. For the dosa, combine 1 cup of rice powder, 3/4 cup semolina, 1/4 cup attached and salt and water to make a thin batter.
  4. Season the batter with mustard seeds, jeera, sesame seeds, asfoetida, finely cut coriander leaves, curry leaves, green chillies and ginger.
  5. Take a non-stick pan and heat it. Pour the batter over the pan, don't spread it like a regular dosa. Add oil on all sides and cook till its crispy. Cook on other side as well.
  6. Serve with palya and chutney.
