ABOUT Mixed Berry Crostata RECIPE

A Crostata is a free-form pie with the crust folded around the filling.This is a fun fresh summer Italian treat!With a crunchy and a tart berry middle it makes a great quick dessert!It's really good.....but play around with it and find out what you like best!

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Ingredients for making crust:-
  2. All purpose flour :- 1 1/2 cup
  3. Cold butter :- 1/2 cup
  4. Sugar :-2 Tbsp
  5. Salt:- 1/2 Tsp
  6. Cold water:-3Tbsp
  7. Ingredients for preparing Topping:-
  8. Strawberries,hulled and quatered :-1 cup
  9. Mixed berries:-1 1/4 Cup
  10. Sliced Almonds :-2Tbsp
  11. Sugar :-4 Tbsp
  12. All purpose flour :-1 Tbsp
  13. Milk :-4Tbsp

Instructions

  1. Cut the butter into small pieces and place in a fridge for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl whisk together the flour,salt and sugar.
  3. Add butter cubes to the dry mixture,mix until you get coarse mixture.
  4. Add water 1 Tbsp at a time,until dough holds together,when small bit pressed between your fingers.
  5. Shape dough into a disc,wrap into a cling wrap and refrigerate for 1 hr.
  6. Preheat the oven at 2oo*C for 10 minutes.
  7. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  8. In a large bowl, mix together the berries with 2Tbsp of sugar and 1Tbsp flour,set them aside while you roll your dough.
  9. Dust work surface well with flour,using a rolling pin,roll it out to a circle.
  10. Place the crust on prepared baking sheet,spoon in berry filling.
  11. Leave an 1 1/2 inch border around all the edges.
  12. Brush the edges with milk wash.
  13. Fold and pleat dough evenly up and around the berries.
  14. Brush the outside of the folded crust with a bit more milk wash.
  15. Sprinkle sliced almonds and sugar all over the crust.
  16. Bake for 40-45 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.
  17. Let it cool completely before serving.
  18. Serve with caramel sauce or a scoop of ice-cream.
