Hilsa fish curry with pumpkin is a typical bengali dish. This recipe is very easy to cook and also very healthy. The addition of curd to the gravy gives a unique flavour to the recipe.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 4 pieces of Hilsa fish
  2. 7-8 pieces pumpkin , cut in medium sized chunks
  3. White mustard seeds 1 tsp
  4. black mustard seeds 1/2 tsp
  5. Curd 4 tsp
  6. Turmeric powder 1,1/2 tsp
  7. Salt 2 tsp
  8. Mustard oil 1,1/2 tbsp
  9. For Tempering :
  10. 3-4 slitted green chillies or according to taste
  11. Black cumin seeds 1/4 tsp

Instructions

  1. Apply some salt and turmeric powder all over the fish pieces.
  2. Take a bowl, mix curd, salt and turmeric powder together.
  3. Make a smooth paste of black and white mustard seeds.
  4. Heat oil in a pan add the pumpkin pieces and fry for couple of minutes and remove from heat.
  5. Now add the black cumin seeds and slitted green chillies in the same oil.
  6. When they start to sizzle, add curd mixture and mustard seeds paste.
  7. Saute for couple of minutes and then add sufficient amount of hot water, salt, sauted pumpkin pieces and raw fish pieces.
  8. Cover the pan with lid and let it cook in medium heat for 10 minutes.
  9. After 10 minutes, turn off the heat and uncover the pan. Now serve this delicious hilsa fish gravy with hot white rice.
