Murgir jhol is  light and flavorful ,delicious and authentic Bengali chicken curry recipe with potatoes.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Chicken curry cut 500gm
  2. Masala Paste(grind onion,garlic,ginger,coriander seeds,cumin,dry red chilli,green chiili,cinnamon, cardamom)
  3. Potatoes(4 small size) chopped into half(optional
  4. 2 Medium Onion(finely chopped)
  5. 1 Tomato finely chopped
  6. Mustard oil 50ml
  7. 1 bay leaf
  8. 11/2 tbsp Kashmiri chilli powder
  9. 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  10. Garam Masala 1tsp
  11. Chicken Masala 1 tbsp
  12. Salt to taste
  13. 1/2 tsp sugar
  14. 1tbsp freshly chopped coriander leaves
  15. 2 cup water
  16. For Masala 2 Medium onions(roughly chopped) Garlic 8-10 pods Ginger 1inch (roughly chopped) Coriander seeds 1tsp Cumin Seeds 1tsp 2 Dry red chilli 1 Green chilli 1 inch cinnamon 2 cardamom

Instructions

  1. Procedure to Make Masala: Place all ingredients into mixie jar and put little water and  grind to paste.
  2. Clean the chicken and keep it aside.Place a heavy bottom pan or kadhai put the oil and once the oil is heated, 
  3. Let the sugar to caramelized (don't burn it) .Now add bay leaf .Now add the turmeric and chilli powder
  4. Immediately add finely sliced onions,and saute till it turns golden brown(tips: add salt in this stage as it helps the onion to cook fast)
  5. Now add chicken and raw potatoes into the masala till it roasted and cooked( all raw smell of masala goes off and oil start coming from sides) in slow flame for around 20 minutes.
  6. Now add water and bring this whole thing to a good boil, cover and simmer till oil floats on top.
  7. Garnish it with chopped coriander leaves..Murgir Jhol is ready to serve hot with rice or chapatis( Indian breads).
