Made with simple ingredients, it is healthy too. Urad daal or black gram is one of the richest sources of protien and Vitamin B. It is also beneficial to women in particular as it contains folic acid, calcium, magnesium and potassium and is hence considered a healthy pulse.

Soak daal in enough drinking water so as to immerse it properly for 3-4 hours.
Do not use more water than needed. Use about 3 cups of water for 2 cups of daal.
Do not drain this water.
In a pan, heat oil and add ginger garlic paste.
Saute for a minute and add green chillies and two chopped onions.
Saute until translucent.
Now add the daal along with the water and cover.
Add salt and coriander leaves too.
Cook on a medium high heat until done.
Keep stirring in between and check for doneness.
Slice the onion that is remaining into thin slices and deep fry. This is optional. You can omit it if you desire.
Garnish with deep fried sliced onion that is remaining.
Serve hot immediately.
