ABOUT Tibetan Butter Tea RECIPE

Butter Tea, a specialty of Tibet, which has been adopted by many North Indian states as well, not only has an unique taste but is also surprisingly healthy. It keeps the body nourished, especially during winters and provides warmth. Traditionally they are prepared using a churner, just like butter/buttermilk churning process.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 1.5 cups water
  2. 1/2 teaspoon soda(optional)
  3. 1 tablespoon tea leaves of your choice
  4. 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  5. A pinch of salt(optional)
  6. 1/2 cup plain milk

Instructions

  1. Combine water, soda and tea leaves in a saucepan and brew to suit your taste
  2. Take off heat once done
  3. In another saucepan, melt butter in low heat (high heat would result in butter being overheated)
  4. Strain the brewed tea into the melted butter
  5. Add salt and milk next
  6. Do not bring to boil . keep stirring on Low heat
  7. Heat the tea to the desired temperature and transfer to serving cups/mugs
  8. Enjoy while warm!
