One such exceptional chaat is Tomato Chop Chaat. My bhabhi is from Benaras and so this recipe came to my place the day she entered my maayka. Interesting it sounds and is very appealing to all the chaat lovers. Let us experience the flavours of a Benarasi Chaat Item at our very own place. Very simple and easy to prepare and full of flavours.

Ingredients Serving: 1

  1. Tomatoes 3
  2. Boiled Potato 1 big
  3. Curd ¼ cup
  4. Imli Chutney 4 tbsp
  5. Green chillies 2
  6. Red Chilli Powder ¼ tsp + ¼ tsp
  7. Cumin Powder ¼ tsp+ ¼ tsp
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Green Chilli 1 tsp
  10. Coriander Chutney 1 tsp
  11. Rock Salt ¼ tsp
  12. Coriander Leaves (For garnishing)
  13. Spiceless Bhujiya or Sev (For garnishing)

Instructions

  1. Mash the boiled potato and add Red Chilli Powder, Cumin Powder, Rock Salt, Salt and 1 chopped green chilli. Mix well.
  2. Now take 3 Tomatoes. Chop off the head and scoop the pulp from inside to form a hollow.
  3. Fill the tomatoes with potato mixture and cook in steam till the tomatoes are soft. This may take around 10 minutes.
  4. Now remove the tomato peel (which should by now come off easily) and flatten the filled tomatoes from the top on the serving plate.
  5. Smoothen the curd by adding a little water and stirring it (Till a smooth paste is formed. It should be pourable enough). Add in salt and mix well.
  6. Now add this curd by spreading with a spoon over the filled tomato chops. Sprinkle the rest of the cumin powder and red chilli powder over the curd
  7. Add the Imli Chutney (Quantity as desired) spreading with a spoon.
  8. Add the one chopped green chilli, chopped coriander leaves and sprinkle the spiceless sev on top. Serve.
