ABOUT Palak Khichdi RECIPE

A healthy, nutritious and sumptuous khichdi made with Spinach (palak), toor dal and rice. Spinach helps to boost more nutrition compared to other normal khichdi.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Brown rice 1 cup
  2. Split pigeon peas (toor dal) 1/2 cup
  3. Palak puree 1/4 bunch
  4. Onion 1 big
  5. Tomato 1 finely chopped
  6. Garlic 10 finely chopped
  7. Ginger 1 teaspoon finely chopped
  8. Green chilli 2 finely chopped
  9. Cumin seeds 1 tablespoon
  10. Asafoetida 1 teasppon
  11. Turmeric 1 teasppon
  12. Coriander powder 1 teaspoon
  13. Garam masala 1 tablespoon
  14. Ghee 1 Tablespoon
  15. Dry red chilli 1 for tempering

Instructions

  1. Soak toor dal and Brown rice for sometime and then pressure cook for 3 whistles.
  2. Add Ghee in a pan. Once hot Add in cumin seeds and asafoetida. Add onions and fry until pinkish.
  3. Add chopped Garlic, ginger and green chillies and sakte for 1 minute
  4. Add tomatoes and saute until soft
  5. Add spinach puree, rest of dry masala and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add in the rice and toor dal mix. Mix well on low flame for 2 mins.
  7. I separate pan, prepare tadka of ghee, jeera, garlic and dried red chilli and pour it in the khichdi. Turn off the flame and keep the pan close for 1 min. Khichdi is ready to eat.
