ABOUT Milagu Pongal || Pepper Rice RECIPE

This is a first dish made on Pongal, the harvest festival of Tamilnadu with first harvest made from fields and offered to Goddess Amman in my Husband's village as a thanksgiving gesture to the Goddess for protecting round the year..

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Raw rice 1 cup
  2. Black pepper 1 Tbsp
  3. Milk 1 cup
  4. Water 2 cups
  5. Ghee 2 Tbsp

Instructions

  1. In a pot bring water to boil and add washed rice.
  2. Cook on medium flame and when rice is half cooked add hot milk and keep on cooking.
  3. When rice gets cooked add required salt and mix. Remove from heat.
  4. In a tempering pan heat ghee and add black pepper corns.
  5. Close the pan with a lid as pepper corns will splutter out of the pan.
  6. Remove from heat and crush coarsely with a soup laddle.
  7. Add crushed pepper into the cooked rice and mix along with ghee and is ready for offering.
