Green gram masala tastes best with Roti, Pav and toasted bread.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Green gram 1 cup
  2. Onion sliced 1, finely sliced
  3. Garlic 6 pods
  4. Ginger 1 inch grated
  5. Green chilies 2 slit
  6. Capsicum 3 tbsp chopped optional
  7. Tomatoes 2 medium sized
  8. Salt 1 tsp
  9. Red chili powder 1/2 tsp
  10. Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  11. Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  12. Fennel seeds powder 1/2 tsp
  13. Cumin Powder 1/2 Tsp
  14. Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  15. Juice of Lemon - 1
  16. 2 tbsp oil/butter

Instructions

  1. Soak Green gram for 4-6 hrs. Alternatively use green gram sprouts
  2. Boil Green gram dal for 15-20 mins until tender. Gently mash it.
  3. Heat Oil/ Butter in a pan. Saute finely sliced onion until translucent
  4. Saute 2 green chilies and Capsicum
  5. Add ginger and garlic. Saute until aromatic
  6. Add roughly chopped tomatoes and cook tender
  7. Add salt, 1/2 TSP turmeric, red chilli powder, fennel seeds powder, coriander powder, cumin powder and garam masala
  8. Add boiled green gram with enough water
  9. Add Coriander leaves and mix well. Add crushed kasuri methi for additional flavor
  10. Cook till the oil leave the sides of the pan. Switch off. Cover and rest for 15 minutes
  11. Serve hot with Roti or Pav or toasted bread
