Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 3/4 cup toor dal
  2. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  3. Salt to taste
  4. 1/4 tsp hing
  5. 1/4 tsp cumin seeds
  6. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  7. 10-12 curry leaves
  8. 2 green chilies
  9. 3-4 tbsp desi ghee
  10. 1 tbsp minced garlic
  11. 1 tbsp grated Ginger
  12. 2 spring onion (white), chopped
  13. 1 tsp kashmiri red chili powder
  14. 1/2 tsp garam masala
  15. 1/2 tsp ground coriander seeds
  16. 1 tsp dry mango powder
  17. 3/4 cup greens of spring onion
  18. 3/4 cup chopped coriander leaves

Instructions

  1. Add dal, water, turmeric powder and salt in pressure cooker and cook for 4 whistles or till done
  2. Heat ghee in a sauce pan, add hing , followed by cumin seeds and mustard seeds let it splutter.
  3. Add the slit green chilies, curry leaves, minced garlic and grated ginger, saute until raw aroma goes off . Add the white onion, cook till it starts to turn golden brown in color. Reduce heat to low
  4. Add all the dry spices, cook for around 30 secs,add the cooked dal and cook for 4-5 minutes on a medium heat, adjust the seasoning if required.
  5. When dal is done , add the chopped green spring onions and cook for around a minute. Garnish with green coriander leaves and serve hot with steamed rice.
