ABOUT Proso Millet Venpongal RECIPE

Venpongal made of rice is very heavy. I almost feel like sleeping after having venpongal. Millet venpongal is easy to digest and lite compared to pongal made of Rice.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Proso millet 1 cup
  2. Moong dal 1/2 cup
  3. Salt
  4. Turmeric
  5. For seasoning Ghee
  6. Black pepper whole 1 tsp
  7. Jeera 1 tsp
  8. Black pepper powder required
  9. Ginger finely chopped
  10. Cashew
  11. Curry leaves
  12. Hing

Instructions

  1. Dry roast 1 cup millet and 1/2 cup moong dal on low flame till you get good aroma
  2. Rinse millet and dal mixture 4 times to remove impurities. Add 5 cups of water, turmeric and salt. Cook the millet and dal.
  3. Avoid pressure cook as it may burn the millet. Cook for 20 mins till you get thick paste like consistency.
  4. Heat Ghee. Add whole pepper, jeera, ginger, curry leaves, hing, black pepper powder and cashews
  5. Add tadka to pongal and mix well
  6. Boil for few minutes. Serve hot with chutney
