ABOUT Dadpe pohe cheesecake RECIPE

Dadpe pohe is traditional Maharashtrian breakfast recipie with thin rice flakes. Peculiarly of this dish is depply infused flavours of coconut with onion into poha by pressing it with heavy weight (dadapane). This is very quick, almost no cook yet delicious breakfast or mid evening snack recipe. It is healthy too. I have made a little deviation to traditional recipe by shaping it in springform cake pan and layering of thick curd above poha.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Thin variety of poha/ rice flakes 250gm
  2. onion 1 medium
  3. Tomato 1 medium
  4. Coriander leaves 1/2 cup
  5. Lemon 1
  6. sugar 1 teaspoon
  7. Salt to taste
  8. Fresh Coconut 1/2 cup
  9. Oil 1 teaspoon
  10. Green chilly 1
  11. Cumin, mustard seeds for tempering
  12. Turmeric powder 1 pinch
  13. Curry Leaves 3-4
  14. Thick Curd 1/2 cup
  15. Mixed herbs 1/2 teaspoon
  16. Chilly flakes for garnishing
  17. Thin shev for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Finely cut onion and tomato
  2. In a bowl, mix onion, tomato, coriander leaves
  3. In a grinder, take grated fresh coconut and make a smooth paste with little water
  4. Add this paste, sugar, salt to onion mixture
  5. Now add all poha. Traditionally we use thin (chivda) poha for this. However you can also use thich one, but you will have to soak thick poha slightly before.
  6. In a mini fry pan heat oil add tempering of cumin and mustard seeds, green chilly, turmeric powder and curry leaves
  7. Pour this tempering over poha
  8. Squeeze lemon juice and mix well
  9. Now we need to keep some weight over poha so as to infuse the flavours in it. Do not add any extra water as the vegetables will ooze sufficient water. Arrange poha in spring form pan
  10. Firmly press poha. Cover poha with a plate
  11. Put some weight over plate so as to apply pressure on poha ( this is called 'dadapane' in marathi). Keep it for 15-20 minutes
  12. Meanwhile, take thick curd, remove loose water if any. Add salt and herbs and whisk it smooth in a bowl
  13. Remove plate over poha and layer curd over it.
  14. Spread it evenly. Remove edges of pan.
  15. Garnish with chilly flakes and thin nylon shev
