ABOUT Curd Rava Upma RECIPE

Curd upma is a delicious recipe made with roasted sooji and curd. It is a common South Indian dish. Today it is popular in most parts of India and is prepared in various ways.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Sooji/Rava 2 1/2 cup
  2. Oil 3-4 tablespoon
  3. Rai 1 1/2 teaspoon
  4. Hing 1 teaspoon
  5. Channa dal 1 1/2 tablespoon
  6. Onion finely chopped 1/2 cup
  7. Curry leaves 15-20
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Sugar 3-4 teaspoon (optional)
  10. Water 4 cups
  11. Beaten curd 3 cups

Instructions

  1. Dry roast the rava/sooji.
  2. Roast, stirring continuously on medium flame, till the sooji turns pink or a nice aroma comes.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add rai.
  4. When the rai crackles add hing.
  5. Add channa dal and roast on low flame till light brown.
  6. Now add chopped onions.
  7. Mix well and cook on medium flame till it turns light pink.
  8. Add curry leaves and roasted sooji.
  9. Add sugar. Mix everything well.
  10. Roast for 4-5 minutes on medium flame.
  11. Now add half of the water mix well.
  12. Then add remaning water.
  13. After adding water add half of curd mix well.
  14. Then add remaning curd.
  15. Depending on the quality of sooji, more or less water and curd is required.
  16. Sooji mixture is runny at this point.
  17. Let sooji cook on low flame, until all the liquid gets absorbed.
  18. Stir in between, so that it will not stick at the bottom.
  19. Turn off the flame and serve hot.
