ABOUT Water Chestnut Stir fry RECIPE

Water chestnut is an edible aquatic vegetable which grows in marshes. It is used in many pan asian preparations. They have a green or ruby cover outside and a white crunchy fruit inside. This recipie is a quick but tasty stir fry using water chestnuts. As such water chestnuts themselves are bland but crunchy water chestnuts coated with butter, garlic and cumin do a proper justice to this vegetable.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Water chestnuts 15-20
  2. One small onion finely chopped
  3. Butter 1 teaspoon
  4. Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon
  5. Green chillies 2 slit
  6. Garlic paste 1 teaspoon
  7. Pepper 1/4 teaspoon
  8. Mixed herbs 1/4 teaspoon
  9. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Properly wash water chestnuts
  2. Remove green cover and take the white part
  3. In a pan heat butter
  4. Add cumin seeds and green chillies
  5. Add garlic paste and saute well
  6. Add chopped onion and mix well
  7. Cook till onion is translucent
  8. Add chestnuts
  9. Mix well and add pepper and mixed herbs
  10. Cook for 5 minutes till water chestnuts are coated well with spices.
  11. Add salt, mix well and cook for 5 more minutes.
  12. Switch off the flame and plate
