Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1 Cup - Moong dal (dry)
  2. 1 Cup - Milk
  3. 1/2 Cup - Pistachio (chopped)
  4. 1/2 Cup - Almonds (sliced)
  5. 5 tbsp - Green Raisins
  6. 1 Cup - Sugar
  7. 1/2 Cup - Ghee
  8. 2-3 Strands - Saffron
  9. 1 Cup - Water

Instructions

  1. Wash moong dal, drain all the water and make sure it is dry.
  2. In a pan add 1/4 cup of ghee. When the ghee becomes hot, add dal and roast until the color changes to golden brown.
  3. Now strain the excess ghee and keep aside. When the dal cools a bit, put it in a grinding jar and grind to a powder.
  4. Put the strained ghee in the pan and heat it again. Roast the dry fruits in it. Once roasted remove it in a plate.
  5. In the same ghee add the dal powder and roast it for 1 minute. Add milk and saffron and keep mixing. Add 1/2 cup of water in it and stir well.
  6. When the water evaporates add 1/2 cup of water again and mix. Add 2 tbsp ghee and sugar. Keep stirring. Add rest of the ghee and make sure that the flame is medium.
  7. Once moong dal has absorbed all the ghee, add the nuts and lower the flame. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Turn off the gas and serve the halwa with more fried nuts as garnish.
