No matter how many dishes we make but a bowl of mild dal definitely makes all the difference. Here is such a kind of satisfying yet flavour loaded masoor moong dal with yellow cucumber.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1/4 cup masoor dal
  2. 1/4 cup Moong dal
  3. Water for boiling
  4. 2 cups yellow cucumber peeled and diced
  5. 1 nos Tomato chopped
  6. 3 nos Green chillies slit
  7. 2 nos Red chillies
  8. 4 large Garlic cloves sliced
  9. 1 nos Bay leaf
  10. An inch piece Cinnamon stick
  11. 1/2tsp mustard seeds
  12. 1/2tsp Cumin seeds
  13. 1/4tsp Turmeric
  14. 1/2tsp Red chilli powder
  15. 1tsp Coriander powder
  16. 1/2tsp Garam masala
  17. Salt to taste
  18. 2tbsp oil
  19. 1 ibsp Ghee

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the dal for at least an hour in enough water.
  2. In a pan add the soaked dal, tomato, diced yellow cucumber, bay leaf, cinnamon stick, turmeric and add enough water. Pressure cook for 2 whistles and let the pressure release by itself.
  3. In a pan add oil and ghee once hot add the mustard, cumin, garlic and saute until the seeds splutter and garlic turns golden.
  4. Next add the slit green chillies, red chillies and saute for a minute or two.
  5. Now add the coriander, garam masala, red chilli powders, stir and turn off the heat.
  6. Add the sauteed tempering along with salt as per taste to the cooked dal cucumber mix.
  7. Stir well, add chopped cilantro and serve hot with pulka, roti or rice.
  8. Yummy dal for lazy days !
