ABOUT Whole Moong Khichdi RECIPE

Khichdi and moong dal or green gram sounds very interesting.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Whole moong or whole green gram 1 cup
  2. Rice 1& 1/2 cups
  3. Onion large sliced 1
  4. Ghee 3 tbsp
  5. Turmeric powder 1 tsp
  6. Salt 1 tbsp
  7. Ginger garlic paste 1 tsp
  8. Cinnamon sticks 3
  9. Bay leaves 2
  10. Cloves 4
  11. Black pepper corns 6 to 7
  12. Caraway seeds (shahi jeera) 1 tsp
  13. Chilli flakes 1 tbsp or green chili 3
  14. Coriander leaves to garnish few

Instructions

  1. Soak the green gram for at least 3 hours.
  2. Soak the rice as well for 30 mins.
  3. It is better to soak the dal overnight.
  4. Heat ghee in a pan.
  5. Add all the ingredients one by one except the onions.
  6. Saute them all a bit for a minute and then add the sliced onions.
  7. After the onions are sauteed well, add the rice and the dal and fry for a minute.
  8. Add the required quantity of water and cook on a high flame for the first 7 to 8 mins.
  9. After that cover and simmer on low flame until done.
  10. It takes about 15 mins.
  11. Serve it hot with pickle and pappad.
