ABOUT Lobia Masala Curry RECIPE

Lobia also known as chawali or black eyed bean. Making lobia masala curry is a very simple and quick one pot meal...that is served with rice.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1 cup lobia beans/ black eyed beans/ chawli daal (soaked)
  2. 2 tbsp channa dal
  3. 2 medium size onions
  4. 2 medium size tomatoes
  5. 2-3 garlic cloves
  6. 1 small piece ginger
  7. 2 green chilies
  8. 1 tsp coriander powder
  9. 2 tsp red chilli powder
  10. 1 tsp turmeric
  11. 2 tbsp cooking oil
  12. Salt according to taste
  13. Garam masala 1/2 tsp
  14. Coriander leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Wash and soak the chawli / lobia for 5-6 hours.
  2. Peel and chop the onions, tomatoes, ginger, garlic and green chilies.
  3. Heat oil in a pressure cooker, add chopped onions, ginger, garlic, green chilies and tomatoes, mix well, saute this for 5-7 minutes until oil is separated from the gravy.
  4. Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and salt to taste, mix well and saute for a minute.
  5. Now add lobia, channa dal and water approx 3-4cups, cover the pressure cooker lid and allow 3-4 whistles.
  6. Indian lobia curry is now ready. Garnish with coriander leaves, sprinkle garam masala.
  7. Serve hot with steamed rice.
