ABOUT Chatakedar Choley RECIPE

It's a spicy easy chickpea curry . Goes very well with bhaturas, pooris and jeera rice. An all time favorite dish of all ages.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 1/2 kg- Kabuli channa (boiled)
  2. 4 large- onions minced
  3. 7- 8 large - tomatoes pureed
  4. 2 tsp - ginger garlic paste
  5. 1 tbsp - Garam masala powder
  6. 1 tsp - amchoor powder
  7. 1 tsp - chaat masala
  8. 1 tsp - black salt
  9. 1 tbsp - Anaardana
  10. 1 tsp - Red chilli powder
  11. 4-5 no. - green chillies chopped
  12. Salt to taste
  13. 2 tbsp - Refined oil
  14. For Garnishing:
  15. 1 tbsp - sliced ginger
  16. 1 tbsp - chopped coriander leaves
  17. 2 no. - Chopped green chillies
  18. A slice of lemon
  19. Khada masalas:
  20. 3-4 laung
  21. 2-3 big cardamom
  22. 1-3 small cardamom
  23. 1 tsp sabut jeera
  24. 4-5 bay leaves
  25. 1 star anise
  26. 1-2 javitri
  27. 1 piece dalchini

Instructions

  1. Soak kabuli chanas overnight in a pressure cooker
  2. In the morning pressure cook the channas adding 1 tsp salt and 1 tsp baking soda
  3. Keep aside. Heat oil in pan and add all the khada masalas
  4. Now add the minced onions
  5. Saute till slightly brownish in color
  6. Add the ginger garlic paste
  7. Saute for 5 minutes
  8. Add the pureed tomatoes
  9. Stir well
  10. Add the dry masalas and saute for 10-15 minutes on slow flame
  11. Cook till it leaves oil on sides
  12. Now add the boiled kabuli chana.
  13. Stir gently
  14. Adjust spices and salt
  15. Cook on slow flame for 7-8 minutes
  16. Switch off the gas
  17. Place in a serving bowl
  18. Garnish with ginger, green chillies and chopped coriander
