ABOUT Mawa Gujia RECIPE

Gujia is a traditional dish of north India. It is a deep fried pastry filled with khoya and dry fruits. We make it on Holi and Teej festivals.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. For outer cover -
  2. All purpose flour 4cups
  3. Ghee 5 tbsp.
  4. For filling-
  5. Khoya grated and roasted 2 1/2 cup
  6. Grated dry coconut 3 1/4 tsp.
  7. Cashew nuts 15 (finely chopped)
  8. Almonds 15 (finely chopped)
  9. Cardamom powder 1/2 tsp
  10. Raisins 15-20
  11. Powder sugar 2 1/2 cup

Instructions

  1. Sieve the flour. Pour the warm ghee into the flour, rub it well to bring it into a crumb texture. Add a little cold water and knead into a stiff dough. Cover with a moist cloth for 15 mins
  2. Take the Khoya, chopped dry fruits mentioned above, cardamom powder, powdered sugar and mix well to combine.
  3. Divide the dough into small balls and roll into small puris.
  4. Place 2 spoons of filling in the middle, apply little milk on the edges with your fingers and fold the puris in half. Make all of them like this.
  5. Now deep fry the stuffed gujia in hot oil on medium flame till they turn golden in colour.
  6. Remove them on tissue paper. When gujia cools down, Serve. You can also store them in an air tight container for 1 month.
