ABOUT GODHUMAI APPAM/WHEAT FLOUR APPAM RECIPE

Appam is the traditional south Indian festival item that is made during many special occasions like Krishna jeyanthi , Avania vattam, Karthigai deepam . It can be also had as evening snacks. The traditional method is made by raw rice and jaggery.

Ingredients Serving: 3

  1. Wheat flour 1 cup
  2. Rice flour 2 tbspn
  3. Jaggery 1/2 cup
  4. Riped Banana 1
  5. Cardamom 1 tspn
  6. Baking soda 1 pinch
  7. water 1/4 cup
  8. Salt a pinch
  9. Oil as required

Instructions

  1. 1. Peel the banana and mash it well with the masher and transfer it to a mixing bowl along with wheat flour, rice flour and salt. Take the jaggery in a pan along with water and bring to boil.
  2. 2. Cook until the jaggery dissolves. Strain the jaggery and add to the mixing bowl. Mix the banana, flour,jaggery well without any lumps.
  3. 3. Add the cardamom and baking soda to the batter and mix well. Adjust the batter to pouring consistency b adding little water if needed. Heat the appam pan with little oil on each mold. Once its hot reduce the flame and pour the batter.
  4. 4. Then fry it on both sides by adding oil until golden . Then remove from pan. Repeat the process for entire batter.
  5. Now the hot godhumai appam is ready to serve.
