ABOUT Chinese Lanterns RECIPE

Crisp refined flour shaped into lanterns and coated in sugar syrup

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. 125 gms refined flour
  2. 1 tbs ghee
  3. 150 gms sugar
  4. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt ghee and add to the refined flour.
  2. Mix the salt in water and use this water to make a soft dough.
  3. Take a 1 inch size ball of the dough and roll out very thin. (The size of poories)
  4. With a knife, make vertical slits in the centre 1/2 cm apart taking care that the ends are not separated.
  5. Keeping the slits vertical, roll both ends till the centre. Twist the ends and press them.
  6. Deep fry in hot oil till crisp. Drain on absorbent paper.
  7. Heat sugar with 1 cup water to make a 1 string consistency syrup.
  8. When the lanterns cool, dip them in the sugar syrup one by bone making sure that they are completely coated .
  9. Let them cool and dry on a plate. When dry store in an airtight container.
