ABOUT Moong Daal Payesh/Kheer RECIPE

It is a traditional daal payesh/kheer, with a melt in mouth consistency and a beautiful aroma of moong. This is a nutritional dessert

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Moong dal half cup
  2. sugar- 3/4 cup
  3. Milk -1/2 litre
  4. Nutmeg powder
  5. Elaichi powder
  6. Saffron soaked in warm milk
  7. Soaked and chopped badam and pista
  8. Ghee 1 tbsp
  9. Cashews and chironji seeds
  10. Rose Water (Optional) 1 Tsp

Instructions

  1. Wash half cup moong dal and pressure cook it adding half cup water ,upto 3 whistles.
  2. Mash the cooked daal soft into a paste.
  3. Add 3\4 cup of sugar .
  4. Mix it well and boil it. Meanwhile stir the mixture in between otherwise the daal may get burnt at the bottom.Until it gets reduced to 3\4 .
  5. By now the rawness of daal goes and both daal and milk gets blended well.
  6. Add saffron and stir well.
  7. Add a pinch of nutmeg powder and elaichi powder.
  8. Add chopped badam/ almonds and pista to the kheer
  9. Now in a kadai add 1 tbsp of ghee and add the cashew nuts and chironji seeds and fry them.
  10. Add a little rose water
  11. Serve hot or cold .
