ABOUT Curry Leaf Gravy/ Karvepillai Kuzhambu RECIPE

A curry made with curry leaves, eaten with white rice. The consistency is a bit thick, but can be made thin if you prefer.

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Curry leaves - 1 cup, pressed
  2. Green Chillies - 2
  3. Garlic cloves - 6
  4. Mustard seeds - 1/8 tsp
  5. Fenugreek seeds - 1/8 tsp
  6. Jeera - 1/8 tsp
  7. Urad dal - 1/8 tsp
  8. Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
  9. Tamarind pulp - 1/4 tsp
  10. Sambar powder - 1/2 tsp
  11. Jaggery - 1/2 tsp, chopped
  12. Pepper powder - 1/8 tsp
  13. Turmeric - 1/8 tsp
  14. Oil - 1 tsp
  15. Salt

Instructions

  1. Grind curry leaves, green chillies and 3 garlic cloves. Add water if required and make a fine paste. Keep aside
  2. Crush the remaining garlic cloves and chop fine.
  3. Heat oil in a pan. Put in urad dal, fenugreek seeds, mustard seeds and jeera.
  4. When it splutters, put in the onion and garlic. Fry till lightly brown.
  5. Add tamarind paste, curry leaf paste, sambar powder and jaggery and cook for a while.
  6. Add turmeric powder, pepper powder and salt. Mix and cook for a while till the raw smell goes.
  7. Serve hot with rice.
