ABOUT Gojjambode - (Authentic Udupi Dish) RECIPE

A traditional udupi Cuisine yet very tasty. Vadas soaked in coconut gravy called gojju. These soft and soaked vadas are delicious.

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. 1 cup urad dal
  2. 1 coconut grated freshly.
  3. 6-7 red chillies
  4. 1 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
  5. Tamarind small lemon size
  6. 2 green chillis
  7. 5-6 Curry Leaves
  8. Salt as per taste
  9. Sugar 1 tsp (optional)
  10. Seasoning: 1 tsp mustard
  11. Curry leaves a few

Instructions

  1. Soak urad dal for 2 hours. Grind dal with green chilli and a few curry leaves. Add very little water while grinding. Make a thick paste.
  2. Put in a little salt and mix well. Keep aside for 15 minutes.
  3. In a mixie jar, put grated coconut, mustard, tamarind and red chillies. Grind to a smooth paste.
  4. Heat a pan, add the paste and add 1 litre water. Put salt as per taste and sugar. Mix well, let it boil for 5 minutes.
  5. Heat oil in a pan, fry the vadas till light brown.
  6. Dip these vadas in water for a minute, squeeze out the water lightly.
  7. Put these vadas in the prepared gojju (curry). Let these vadas soak in gojju for 15-20 minutes.
  8. Heat 1 tsp oil season with mustard and curry leaves. Pour on the prepared Gojjambode as a garnish.
