ABOUT Hyderabadi Mirchi Ka Salan RECIPE

Mirchi Ka salan is famous Hyderabad side dish for biryani. It is very aromatic and lipsmacking with rich gravy prepared with ground nuts and other spices.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Less hot large size green chilli - 6
  2. For Grinding
  3. Ground nuts - 2 tsp
  4. Sesame seeds - 11/2 tsp
  5. Poppy Seeds - 1 tsp
  6. Dry coconut - 11/2 tsp
  7. Onion - 2 (roughly chopped)
  8. Ginger - 1 inch
  9. Garlic - 3
  10. Oil - 1 tsp
  11. For gravy
  12. Oil - 5tsp
  13. Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
  14. Cumin Seeds - 1 Tsp
  15. Red chilli powder - 1 tsp
  16. Garam masala - 1/2 tsp
  17. Onion - 1(finely chopped)
  18. Tamarind - small lemon size
  19. Butter - 1 tsp
  20. salt as per taste
  21. Water - 2 cups(adjust accordingly)

Instructions

  1. Soak tamarind in hot water, wash green chilli/ mirchi in water and tap it with dry cloth. slit chilli in middle(do not slit upto end) and dressed it.
  2. Take pan fry groundnuts, once it starts changing color add sesame & poppy seeds, dry coconut fry it well on low flames and take it into plate.
  3. In the same pan add 1 tsp of oil fry onion when it starts changing color add ginger and garlic. Take it into plate and let it cool.
  4. Now grind all the above to smooth paste and keep it aside.
  5. Heat 2 tsp of oil in a pan add slited green chillies fry it all sides, till it changes color on low flames. Do not break the chillies while frying.
  6. In the same pan add 3 tsp of oil add mustard seeds once it starts crackling add cumin seeds, curry leaves fry it.
  7. Now add turmeric and red chilli powder and mix it well, immediately add finely grinded masala paste mix well.
  8. Add tamarind extract, garam masala powder, some water and mix everything well and cook it for 2 to 3 minutes.
  9. Now add required amount of water and fried green chilli to the above, close the lid and cook for 10 min on low flames till mirchi absorbs masala.
  10. Atlast add 1 tsp of butter give it a quick mix. That's it spicy, tasty Hyderabadi Mirchi ka salan is ready. We can have it with biryani's, naans or with Roti's. I had it with carrot rice :yum::heart_eyes:.
