ABOUT Wheat Grass Rasam RECIPE

A recipe which I created recently and I can proudly say that any age group can consume wheat grass as a part of there diet. I chose wheatgrass mainly because of the chlorophyll which neutralizes toxins, controls blood sugar related problems and also helps to purify the liver. Wheatgrass juice is combined with tamarind and cooked with tomatoes, rasam powder and finally tempered with spices to make this healthy wheatgrass rasam.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. Wheat grass 100 gms
  2. Cherry Tomatoes 8
  3. Tamarind 1 small lemon size
  4. Rasam powder 1 and 1/2 tsp
  5. Turmeric 1/4 tsp
  6. Musturd 1/2 tsp
  7. Garlic 2 cloves
  8. Cumin Seeds 1/2 tsp
  9. Dry Red chilli 1
  10. Curry leaves a few
  11. Coriander leaves- few
  12. Salt to taste
  13. Hing cake 1 small piece
  14. Water 500 ml

Instructions

  1. Wash the wheat grass thoroughly. Also soak the tamarind in water and take the juice out of it.
  2. Blend the wheat grass and tamarind water together. (Add additional water if needed but not beyond 500 ml.)
  3. Strain the wheat grass juice and throw the extra fiber which comes out after straining.
  4. Take a cooking pot and add the hing cake, tomatoes, wheat grass and tamarind juice, turmeric, salt, curry leaves and allow it to boil. Once it is boiling, add the rasam powder and turn off the gas once it becomes frothy.
  5. Temper with ghee, mustard, red chilli, garlic and cumin seeds and add them to the rasam.
  6. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it hot.
