ABOUT Spinach and Cheese Curry RECIPE

Spinach is not a common ingredient in South Indian curries. However recently it has been imported from outside and is being used as a main ingredient in some curries. Paneer has been part of north Indian cooking for ages. It is made from curdling milk , Now it is available with the widespread use of refrigeration in grocery stores in India. The two blend very well in curry and can be served flat bread or rice.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. 500 gms Spinach cooked in 1 cup water
  2. Butter 2 tbsp for frying paneer
  3. Onions 3 medium sized
  4. Garlic Pods 2
  5. Cooking oil 5 tbsp
  6. Cumin powder 1 tbsp
  7. Paneer 300 gms
  8. Salt according to taste
  9. Chilly powder 1 tbsp
  10. Cream 1/4 cup
  11. Gram masala powder 1/4 tsp

Instructions

  1. Cook the spinach in 1 cup water
  2. Drain the water and grind the spinach into a fine paste.
  3. Grind the 2 onions ,garlic, and add this paste to the ground spinach
  4. Heat oil in a pan and saute the onions
  5. Pour the spinach mix and cook for 5 minutes
  6. Cut the cheese into fine cubes and leave it in boiled water for a little while. Drain and shallow fry in butter till golden brown and add to the spinach mixture.
  7. Add the Garam masala powder and serve with rice, naan or chapattis.
