ABOUT Fatteh (Traditional Middle Eastern Breakfast) RECIPE

Fatteh is a tradional breakfast of common people of Labanon, Egypt, Jordan and other counties of Middle East. It's is a very healthy and simple dish made with boiled chick peas, yoghurt and toasted Pita bread . A very simple, filling and healthy breakfast for villagers.

Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 1 cup Chick peas or Kabuli chana soaked overnight
  2. 1 cup plain Yoghurt
  3. 2-3 Pita breads or you can use leftover chapati
  4. 2 cloves of minced Garlic
  5. 2 tablespoon Tahini paste
  6. 1/2 teaspoon crushed Cumin seeds
  7. 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  8. Chopped Parsley or Mint leaves
  9. Toasted Pine nuts or other nuts to garnish
  10. Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil soaked chick peas with salt water to become soft.
  2. Drain and keep aside.
  3. Cut pita breads into wedges.
  4. Toast them in a toaster or oven
  5. Alternately you can make them crisp in a hot griddle also.
  6. Cut the toasted bread into small bite size pieces.
  7. Put yoghurt in a bowl and add tahini paste, cumin, paprika powder, minced garlic, lemon juice and chopped parsley or mint.
  8. Mix well to combine.
  9. Arrange a serving dish and spread toasted pita at the bottom.
  10. Next make a layer of boiled chick peas.
  11. Top with the yoghurt mixture.
  12. Garnish with some toasted nuts and chopped parsley or mint and serve immediately with some extra toasted pita at the side.
