ABOUT Ragi Balls (Mudde) RECIPE

To make ragi mudde, traditionally a wooden stick called mudde kolu is used to mix the flour with the Hot water.

Ingredients Serving: 1

  1. ½ cup ragi flour
  2. 1 Cup water
  3. 1 tsp Salt
  4. 1 tsp ghee
  5. 1/2 cup chopped vegetables for filling( carrot, raddish, red cabbage etc optional)

Instructions

  1. In a pot add salt, 1 tbsp ragi flour to water and mix well to remove any lumps.
  2. Now start to cook on a medium flame.
  3. When the mixture start to boil , add the flour slowly.
  4. Remove the pot from the stove, and stir well with a wooden stick to prevent lumps.
  5. Bring the flour together to the center of the pot, this helps to trap the steam in the flour.
  6. Now again keep the pot on the stove, cover and cook on a low flame for about 3 minutes without burning.
  7. Switch off the stove and leave it as it is covered. When the temperature comes down, grease your palms with ghee and roll it to balls.
  8. Chopped vegetables can be filled inside while making the balls.(optional step)
  9. Serve Ragi Ball (mudde) with favorite gravy or sambar.
