ABOUT Fried Masala Idli RECIPE

This dish can be made either from fresh idlis or leftover idlis. This dish can be served as breakfast meal or evening snack. Fried Idli goes well with Sambar and Coconut Chutney

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. 5-6 Idlis
  2. 8-10 curry leaves
  3. 2 dried red chillies
  4. 1 Teaspoon Cumin Seeds (Jeera)
  5. 1 Teaspoon Black Peppercorns (Sabut Kali Mirch)
  6. 1 Teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  7. 1 Teaspoon Urad Dal (Split & Skinned Black Gram Lentils)
  8. 1/2 Teaspoon Salt
  9. 1/2 Teaspoon Amchur (Dry Mango Powder)
  10. 1/2 teaspoon sambhar powder
  11. 1 Tablespoon Oil+1 Tablespoon oil

Instructions

  1. Combine Dried Red Chillies, Curry Leaves, Cumin Seeds, Garlic Cloves and Black Peppercorn in a blender and grind it coarsely.
  2. Cut the Idlis into bite sized pieces. Leftover Idli works best since it's less crumbly.
  3. Heat 1 Tablespoon oil in a pan and fry the idlis till they are crispy and light brown in color.
  4. add the remaining oil In the same pan, add some Black Mustard Seeds (Rai) and Urad Dal.
  5. add curry leaves and add the spice mixture prepared earlier and saute for a few seconds.
  6. Then add the Fried Idlis to the pan.
  7. Now add Salt, Sambar Masala and Amchur
  8. Toss the Idlis in the masala mixture to coat them evenly.
  9. Fried Idlis are ready to be relished with the chutneys of your choice
