Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 2.5 cups : Coconut milk
  2. 1 cup : water
  3. 1/4 cup : Roasted chana dal / Putnala pappu
  4. 8 to 10 nos : Green chillies or to taste
  5. Salt to taste
  6. 1 tsp : oil
  7. 1/2 tsp : mustard seeds
  8. 1/2 tsp : Cumin seeds
  9. 1/4 tsp : Turmeric
  10. few curry leaves
  11. Few sprigs : Coriander chopped

Instructions

  1. Start off by preparing coconut milk : Scrape the white flesh of half of the coconut and grind in a blender using around 2 cups of water, later strain and extract coconut milk using a sieve.
  2. Grind the roasted chana dal along with green chillies into fine paste adding water as required and set aside until use.
  3. Now heat a pan with oil, once hot add the mustard , cumin seeds, curry leaves and let them splutter..
  4. Next add in the turmeric , water , coconut milk , salt and bring this to a soft boil..
  5. Later stir in the ground dal paste and mix well, make sure that no lumps are formed..
  6. Bring this to a boil again until slightly thick similar to the texture of a kadhi, lastly sprinkle with coriander leaves and turn off the heat..
  7. Scrumptious coconut chaaru is ready to be served with hot hot rice !!
