Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. Idli batter - 1 cup
  2. Moong dhal-1/4cup
  3. Toor dhal-1/4 cup
  4. Green chilies-2
  5. Curry leaves- handful
  6. Cashews-1/4 cup
  7. Mustard-1 /2 spoon
  8. Urid dhal-1/2 spoon
  9. Cumin seeds -1/2 spoon
  10. Turmeric powder- 1/4 spoon
  11. Asafoetida -1/4 spoon
  12. Salt- as required
  13. Coriander leaves - handful
  14. Oil- for tempering

Instructions

  1. Soak moong dhal and toor dhal together for 2 hours and grind it to a fine paste.
  2. Add salt and asafoetida while grinding dhal.
  3. Take leftover idli batter in a flat bowl and mix grounded dhal.
  4. Beat well and keep it aside.
  5. Heat oil fry mustard and wait till splutters.
  6. Add cumin seeds and urid dhal
  7. Fry for a second and add cashews.
  8. Add green chilies, curry leaves, turmeric powder and fry .
  9. Mix well with batter and add finely chopped coriander leaves.
  10. Check salt level and add accordingly.
  11. Keep this batter aside for 1-2 hours to ferment.
  12. Now use cup for cup idlis or idli plates and fill the batter.
  13. Steam cook for 12-15 mins and turn off the flame.
  14. Fluffy dhal idlis ready to serve with spicy chutney/sambar/idli chilli powder
