ABOUT Benne Murukku RECIPE

Benne means butter in kannada and murukku / chakli means savoury snack in South India. This snack available in all bakeries , condiments shop etc., There are so many variations of this murukku. This is the one i makes at home all the time. Benne murukku is one of the famous dishes of Karnataka and is popular throughout the worldwide. Benne means butter in Kannada and murukku means savoury snack in South Indian. Benne murukku is an all-time favorite tea-time snack among Indian, is a mouthwatering deep fried dish. It is also known as Benne chakli, Venna murukku and Butter murukku. Be it children or adults, everybody just loves this evening snack. Murukku has always been the perfect evening snack or starter for a get together for ladies to munch and gossip over. The crunchy Benne murukku is amazing in taste and no one can resist its essence. Benne murukku, prepared with rice flour and the goodness of butter flavored with asafetida is a truly amazing snack for a perfect day out. It is quick and easy to prepare and by the help of this recipe you will definitely know how to make the perfect Benne murukku at your home. Firstly prepare a dough by using all the ingredients except oil and then fill it in a chakli press and press it into the hot oil. Fry them until the color turns to golden and serve it. You can also store it in a air tight container for a long time.

Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. Rice Flour - 2 cups
  2. Urad dal flour - 3/4 cup
  3. Butter (unsalted) - 80grms
  4. Asafoetida / Hing / Peryangayum - 1/4 tsp
  5. Salt to taste
  6. Jeera seeds - 1 tsp
  7. Oil - 500ml (to deep fry)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl mix all the ingredients except oil.
  2. Or Take a 2 cups of Chakli flour / powder mix with butter, salt , hing and jeera .
  3. Knead the mix gently into a dough with enough using water. Fill the medium size dough ball into a chakli press.
  4. Press the dough into hot oil like sticks.
  5. Deep fry till golden colour over low flame. Remove and place it on paper towel and let it cool and store it in airtight box.
