What is south Indian home without leftover idlies. But i assure you once u try this restaurant style kaima idly famous in south indian veg restaurant you wantedly make some extra idlies to reserve for leftovers. Its high time to give leave for the usual idly upma!! :)

Ingredients Serving: 2

  1. idly chillled 5
  2. For the Masala :
  3. oil 1tbsp
  4. capsicum 1/4cup
  5. ginger garlic crushed 1tbs
  6. currry leaves 2sprig
  7. coriander 1tbs chopped
  8. coriander powder1tbs
  9. chilli powder 1/2tbs
  10. garam masala powder/chola powder/pav bhaji powder.3/4 tsp
  11. Sambar powder 1/2tsp
  12. Fennel seeds 1/2tsp
  13. onion 2 big chopped
  14. Tomato 2 chopped
  15. Tomato sauce 1tsp
  16. for idly fry :
  17. Rice powder 1/2tsp
  18. Maida 1/2tbsp
  19. Garam masala powder 1pinch
  20. Pepper powder 1 pinch
  21. jeera and fennel powder 1 pinch
  22. chilli powder 1pinch
  23. Oil for frying
  24. hung curd 1tsp
  25. turmeric powder one pinch
  26. Salt a little
  27. for coconutcurd :
  28. coconut 3tbsp
  29. Curd 1tbsp
  30. Lemon juice 2tsp
  31. mustard 1/4tsp
  32. onion 3tbsp
  33. Salt a little

Instructions

  1. best to go with a night old idlies since they wont go soggy and hold pieces together without becoming mushy.
  2. dice the idly into one inch pieces .
  3. add all the ingredients under "to fry" and mix well .leave it aside for 5mins
  4. drop the pieces in oil and deep fry till golden (u can bake them in oven with oil drizzled and frequent turning at 180c for 10 to 15mins or tawa fry in a nonstick shallow pan)
  5. in a pan or kadai add oil , add fennel seeds and curry leaves add crushed garlic ginger and saute for a minute
  6. then add capsicum and onion and saute till golden
  7. add tomatoes and saute till mushy and mash it with ladle too . add all the masala powders,salt and add the tomato sauce
  8. now add the fried idlies and give a gentle toss and mix.
  9. after mixing for a minute now add little water about 3tbsp as this help to coat the idlies with gravies and absorb the flavor.
  10. now you can see all are coated well and one . now add l coriander serve with coconut curd
  11. for coconut curd : grind 1tsp curd with 3tbsp coconut little water and lemon juice to smooth paste and add salt
  12. in a temper pan add little mustard and add 2 tbsp onion and stir in high for 5 secs and mix with coconut mix.
