ABOUT Kachayam RECIPE

Kachayam is a traditional dish of Coimbatore . I wanted to use my 3 mushy ripe bananas . Had no heart to waste them and that’s how I ended up doing this Kachayam. Easy , healthy and tasty sweet / snack recipe . Mushy bananas are now reformed into a yummy snack .

Ingredients Serving: 10

  1. Ripe Mushy large bananas 3
  2. Wheat flour 3/4 cup
  3. Semolina 1/4 to 1/2 cup
  4. Baking soda one big pinch
  5. Cardamom powder 1/4 teaspoon
  6. Ghee 1 teaspoon
  7. Cooking oil for deep frying

Instructions

  1. In a bowl , take bananas and mash it completely . Mine was already mushy so just leveled it up to smooth consistency .
  2. Add wheat flour ,
  3. Then add other ingredients one by one excluding the cooking oil .
  4. Mix all together without adding any water . The moisture of the bananas will do.
  5. Initially , the dough will look tight. the more you knead , it would turn to bonda batter consistency .
  6. Now stop kneading .
  7. Cover and rest for 10 minutes minimum.
  8. After 10 minutes , heat oil in a wok .
  9. Scoop batter using a tablespoon and gently drop the batter into medium sized balls in the hot oil .
  10. Maintain flame to medium .
  11. The balls puff up beautifully . Fry until golden brown .
  12. Fry in batches . Avoid overcrowding .
  13. Pazha Kachayam is ready .
  14. Serve hot with a cup of tea / coffee.
