Poppy seeds and mustard seeds play a vital role in Bengal. There are so many recipes where the Bengali people are used poppy seeds and mustard seeds in cooking. Sorso Posto Bhindi is a delicious authentic Bengali dish which is very simple and easy to cook recipe. It is specially served with hot plain rice. My family just love this recipe. Ingredients Serving: 5

  1. 1/2 kg Lady's fingers/ Bhindi
  2. 1 big size onion sliced
  3. 2 tbsp coconut pest
  4. 1 tbsp mustard seeds pest
  5. 1 tbsp poppy seeds pest
  6. 2 tsp green chillies pest
  7. Salt to taste
  8. 1 tsp turmeric powder
  9. 1 tsp sugar
  10. 1/4 tsp Fenugreek seeds
  11. 1/4 tsp Nigella seeds
  12. 4 tbsp Mustard oil

Instructions

  1. Wash and cut both the ends of the vendi and keep it as whole.
  2. Heat mustard oil in a kadhai and add nigella seeds, fenugreek seeds, sugar and when sugar starts to caramelised then add sliced onion.
  3. Stir fry for 2 minutes on medium-high heat and then add Bhindi/ Lady's fingers.
  4. Add salt and turmeric powder and mix it.
  5. Reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. In a small bowl, mix mustard seeds pest, poppy seeds pest, green chillies pest.
  7. If the lady's fingers are 80% cocked then add the mixed pest and coconut pest.
  8. Add little water, and cook for few minutes on high heat till the consistency will be thick.
  9. Garnish with grated coconut and green chillies and serve it with hot plain rice.
