ABOUT ANDHRA CHICKEN CURRY RECIPE

Andhra Pradesh is well known for its spicy cuisine. This is a curry cooked with fresh home made masalas and it can be relished with plain rice or Jowar rotis.

Ingredients Serving: 6

  1. Chicken............1 kg
  2. Tomatoes........2
  3. Yogurt........2 tbsp
  4. Onions.......3 to 4 large chopped.
  5. Turmeric Powder.......1/2 tsp
  6. Red Chilli Powder.......1/2 tsp
  7. Coriander Powder.......1 to 1 1/2 tsp
  8. Salt to taste
  9. Coriander Leaves ... handful
  10. Curry leaves...... few
  11. (For the masala:)
  12. Oil ... 4-5 tbsps
  13. Dry or fresh coconut.....1/4 cup
  14. Dry red chillies....4 to 5
  15. Cloves......4
  16. Cinnamon.... 1" piece
  17. Green cardamoms ... 3-4
  18. Sesame seeds .. 1 tbsp
  19. Poppy seeds .... 1 tbsp
  20. Ginger......2 tbsp
  21. Garlic........1 pod

Instructions

  1. Grind the masala ingredients to a fine paste adding water.
  2. Heat 4 to 5 tbsp of oil. Add onions and fry till dark brown.
  3. Add the chicken.... also add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, coriander powder, salt. Mix and cook on high flame. When the water of the chicken dries, add tomatoes, curry leaves and yogurt. Mix and cook on slow flame for till 3/4th done.
  4. Add the ground paste, mix well. Cover and cook on low flame for about 10 more minutes till chicken is cooked.
  5. Garnish with coriander leaves.
