Ingredients Serving: 4

  1. 2 1/2 cups of all purpose flour/maida
  2. 2 1/2 tsp of baking powder
  3. 1/2 tsp of salt
  4. 1 tbsp of granulated white sugar
  5. 113 gms of cold unsalted butter
  6. 3/4 cup of milk
  7. 1 large egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400 F/205 C. In a large bowl, whisk together the all purpose flour, salt , sugar and baking powder.
  2. Cut the block of butter into small cubes and drop it into the bowl. Use your finger tips to cut the butter into the dry ingredients until they turn out into coarse crumbs.
  3. Beat the egg and add it into the bowl. Also pour in the milk. Mix it till they combine together and form a sticky and lumpy dough.
  4. Place it on a floured surface and knead it to form a smooth dough.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness. Use a floured cookie cutter to cut of biscuits out of it and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Brush the top of the biscuits with egg wash. Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until the surface turns golden brown and a tooth pick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Serve it warm with sausage gravy/butter/jam.
